With the Acc, Big East, Atlantic 10 and maybe other schools switching
conferences, wouldn't it be better for all concerned to begin playing in
the new conference next year instead of waiting 2 years???

Not quite that easy. Teams create schedules a few years out. In football
especially, you can't just change established games. Teams jump
conferences, they have to balance home games vs road games, dates played,
etc. Plus, conferences have buy out clauses for leaving before a certain
date. This allows them to lock in schedules without getting screwed later
on.

I know Miami and Va Tech are gone next year to ACC. Boston Col is still
undecided, but a lot BE are leaning towards dropping them. However, the BE
needs to keep 8 schools to remain a BCS conference. Since the C-USA schools
are obligated till 2005, they must wait the extra year on BC. It sounds
easy to just change now, but with money on the line, everything gets
complicated. Just look at the mess now.

Rumor is that the CUSA schools could be available next year (that's what I
hear on UC's campus). It is really up to the big east.
