It's been quiet here for the past couple of days, so...

I went to a local pub to watch VT vs. UCF on Sunday, because you can't get
ESPN in Canada unless you have a satellite dish, and a gray-market one at
that.

I left after Marcus Vick's touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. When I got
home, I thought I would tune into the Virginia Tech ISP Sports Network for
the post-game comments.

Surprise! When you go to Yahoo, you now have to buy a subscription
($5/month) to listen to webcasts of games.

Speaking of Marcus Vick, anybody know anything about this "violation of
team policies" that he was suspended for? Gee, I hope the Hokies can get by
James Madison (the university in Harrisonburg, not the long-dead president)
without him. :-)

I don't know what's up with this. I guess I shouldn't be surprised,
as the days of free beer from the internet seem to be over. I won't
subscribe to the yahoo service unless I know that Tech benefits
financially from the sale of subscriptions (and even then...).

Although it's not working well yet, you can get some live feeds
from www.hokietv.com - they don't seem to have the capacity to handle
large volume yet, so it may be more frustrating than it's worth.

No details were released, as far as I know. It's a shame, because
he could have benefitted from some playing time against JMU before
Texas A&M the next week. If the A&M game is as close as last year's
game was, I doubt he'll get in there at all.

Thank the RIAA. Pretty much everyone pulled their internet broadcasts after
the RIAA stepped in and sued for "back pay" on behalf of the voice actors
that do the commercials. Since their pay is based on the potential
audience, the RIAA claimed that an internet broadcast made the entire earth
the potential audience. After that, nobody could afford to keep their
internet broadcasts withour charging for it.
